Why bother with a yearly service maintenance agreement?

A yearly service maintenance agreement on your system is a wise thing to do. Maintaining your system will save you money on energy bills, but just as importantly, a yearly maintenance will help your system last longer.

How often should I have my unit serviced?

We recommend that you have your unit serviced twice a year. Once in the spring and once in the fall.

How often should I change or clean my filter?

We recommend you change or clean your filter once a month or as needed.

How much freon does a unit need?

The amount varies from one unit to another according to the size and type of unit and length of Refrigerant line sets.

I changed the batteries in my thermostat and it still will not work?

Most battery operated thermostats have a reset button which when pushed it tells the thermostat that it has new batteries.

How do I know what size HVAC system I need?

To exactly size an air conditioning unit for a specific area requires a heat load calculation which is a bit complicated and is usually made by a licensed HVAC contractor who is experienced and qualified to make these calculations.

Why is my unit freezing up?

There are several things that can freeze up your coil and / or reduce air flow. Anything that restricts the airflow through the inside unit will cause frost. As the frost builds up on the coil, the airflow becomes more and more restricted making the condition worse.

1. Extremely dirty air filter restricting the airflow through the inside unit.

2. System low on freon, causing coil to freeze up.

3. Check your return grill to make sure that it is not being obstructed.

4. Blower motor overheats and “kicks off” on safety switch.

When freezing up occurs on the outside pipes next to the compressor, you have a situation where damage to the compressor can occur.

There’s water spilling out of my inside unit, what can I do about this?

If you do not see ice build up on the copper tubing when you run your system, then you probably have a clogged drain line. A clogged drain line is usually caused by dust or algae build-up inside the drain line.

The system is running but the air is not very cold?

If some cooling is taking place but not enough, then the chances are that the system is low on freon. The only reason a system would need freon is because the freon leaked out.

1. Dirty indoor air filter.

2. Possible low freon.

3. Condensor coil dirty.

4. Compressor to outdoor unit is not running for some reason.

5. Possible lose return air duct.

Inside unit is running but the outside is not?

First check your breaker that supplies power to unit. Turn it completely “off” even if it appears to be “on”, then turn it back on again. If it trips again, leave it alone and call Superior Heating and Air Conditioning at (910) 353-2172.

The system wont run at all.

The most common reason that a system will not run is because of a loss of power.
